Question 7931

Is it dangerous to enter an address into a GPS navigation device while driving?

  1. Only if the navigation device is not built into the vehicle.
  2. No, because it helps you drive more safely.
  3. Yes, because it distracts the driver.
Show answer and explanation

Correct answer: Yes, because it distracts the driver.

Yes. Typing an address makes you take your eyes off the road and one hand off the wheel, and it is equally distracting whether the navigation device is portable or built into the car. That is why doing this while moving is prohibited. In the image, the driver is touching the phone in its mount while driving. Set your destination before setting off and follow the voice directions.
