Question 7518

A retroreflector is...

  1. a device that reflects light from other vehicles.
  2. a reflective license plate.
  3. a vehicle lighting device.
Show answer and explanation

Correct answer: a device that reflects light from other vehicles.

A retroreflector does not produce its own light or illuminate anything. It reflects light back toward its source, such as another vehicle’s headlights, allowing that driver to see your vehicle even when its lights are off. A reflective license plate does not count as a retroreflector. In the image, the red retroreflectors on the parked van’s bumper shine even though its lights are off.
