Question 7357

If, due to a breakdown, your vehicle comes to a stop on a railroad crossing, what measures, among others, are you required to take?

  1. Evacuate the occupants and remove the vehicle from the tracks.
  2. Prevent the occupants from leaving the vehicle.
  3. Go to the nearest railroad station to report the situation.
Show answer and explanation

Correct answer: Evacuate the occupants and remove the vehicle from the tracks.

If your car breaks down on a railroad crossing, have all occupants get out and try to move the vehicle off the tracks as soon as possible. If you cannot, arrange for the train engineer and other drivers to be warned of the danger immediately, for example by calling 112. Keeping the occupants inside puts them in danger, and going to the nearest station delays the warning.
