What is the first thing every person must do when going to help at a traffic accident?

Correct answer: Protect themselves.

Protect yourself first. Before approaching, check for hazards such as traffic, fire, or dangerous goods, and put on your vest. If you get hit or injured, there will be one more victim and you will not be able to help. Then secure the scene, and then protect the victims. In the image, the man is wearing his vest and waiting behind the guardrail, off the roadway.
