Question 5871
If you are forced to stop your vehicle on a freeway, may you do so on the median?
- No, you must continue to the nearest rest area.
- No, it is only possible to do so on the right side, even if it occupies part of the roadway.
- Yes, when there is no other option.
Show answer and explanation
Correct answer: Yes, when there is no other option.
Yes, as an exception. If you need to stop because of an emergency, look for the right shoulder and never stay in a traffic lane. If reaching that shoulder is more dangerous, for example because of the lanes you would have to cross, you may use the median or the left shoulder. You do not have to continue to a rest area. In the image, the blue passenger car is on the left shoulder, next to the median.
