Question 5469

A traffic light with a horizontal white line on a black background...

  1. prohibits buses on regular routes and streetcars from proceeding.
  2. allows buses and streetcars to turn right and left.
  3. allows buses and streetcars to proceed.
Show answer and explanation

Correct answer: prohibits buses on regular routes and streetcars from proceeding.

A traffic light with a white bar on a circular black background applies to streetcars and buses on regular routes. When the bar is horizontal, as in the image, they must not proceed, just as at a steady red light. A vertical bar allows them to go straight, and a diagonal bar allows them to turn toward the side it points to. If it controls a reserved lane, it applies to everyone using that lane.
