Question 5428

Children shorter than 135 centimeters may exceptionally ride in the front seat of the car if...

  1. it is not possible to install child restraint systems in all of the rear seats.
  2. the rear seats are occupied by other passengers, whether adults or minors.
  3. the child restraint system is rear-facing and the airbag is deactivated.
Show answer and explanation

Correct answer: it is not possible to install child restraint systems in all of the rear seats.

A child may ride in the front, using a child restraint system, when there is not enough room in the back for all the systems needed. This is also allowed when the vehicle has no rear seats or when they are already occupied by other children 135 cm tall or shorter, but not because adults are sitting in the back. Deactivating an airbag alone is not enough to allow a child to sit in the front. In the image, two children are in their child car seats in the back, and the oldest is in a booster seat in the front.
