Question 5388
Except in an emergency, on a road outside a built-up area, where must you stop or park?
- Off the roadway, on the right or left shoulder.
- On the right side, off the roadway and off the usable part of the shoulder.
- On the usable part of the right shoulder.
Show answer and explanation
Correct answer: On the right side, off the roadway and off the usable part of the shoulder.
Outside a built-up area, you must always stop or park on the right, off the roadway and clear of the usable part of the shoulder, like the gray passenger car in the image. Remaining on the shoulder because of a breakdown or feeling unwell is Detention due to an emergency, which follows different rules.
