Question 4823

At this intersection with a flashing yellow traffic light, what must you do?

  1. Exercise extreme caution and, if necessary, yield to traffic on both sides.
  2. Stop the vehicle.
  3. Continue with caution; a flashing yellow traffic light exempts you from obeying the traffic sign.
Show answer and explanation

Correct answer: Stop the vehicle.

A flashing yellow light requires you to use extra caution, but it does not override other signs requiring you to stop. In the image, there is a stop sign below the traffic light, so you must stop completely, look and proceed when no one is coming. Without the stop sign, using extra caution and yielding when required would be enough.
