Question 4177

What is a retroreflector?

  1. A vehicle lighting device.
  2. A device that reflects light coming from a light source.
  3. A reflective license plate.
Show answer and explanation

Correct answer: A device that reflects light coming from a light source.

A retroreflector does not produce its own light, so it does not illuminate anything. It reflects light from a source outside the vehicle, such as another car's headlights, back toward that source. This lets anyone near that source see the vehicle even when it is turned off. Reflective license plates do not count as retroreflectors.
