Question 4016

While backing up, you hear warning signals from another vehicle; what must you do?

  1. Signal the maneuver with the hazard lights.
  2. Finish the maneuver as quickly as possible.
  3. Stop the vehicle and abandon the maneuver if necessary.
Show answer and explanation

Correct answer: Stop the vehicle and abandon the maneuver if necessary.

If you hear warnings while backing up, or someone signals to you like the man in the image, stop the vehicle immediately and abandon the maneuver if necessary. Finishing quickly increases the danger, because you must back up slowly. Hazard lights do not signal that you are backing up or allow you to continue.
