Question 3772
The traffic light turns steady yellow. What must you do?
- Stop before the traffic light, when I can do so safely.
- Proceed before the red light comes on.
- Yield and then proceed.
Show answer and explanation
Correct answer: Stop before the traffic light, when I can do so safely.
A steady yellow light requires you to stop just like a red light, unless you are so close when it comes on that you can no longer stop safely before the traffic light. If you can brake safely, you must stop. Speeding up to get through before the light turns red is not allowed, and yielding before proceeding is what a flashing yellow light calls for.
